The filigree obverse of the cross, richly decorated with scrolled foliage, forms a veritable network of plants with varied flora. By its luxuriance and its motifs, this decoration recalls those of the Cross of the Paraclete of the cathedral of Amiens and of another in the treasury of the cathedral of Tournai, two works from the 1220s. of the antique style of the Mosan goldsmith Nicolas de Verdun (Chasse of Notre-Dame de Tournai, 1205), characteristic of the Style 1200, which is also found in the paintings of a missal from the abbey of Anchin near Douai (around 1220, Douai, biblio. muni.).
