General meaning of the iconographic program

The reverse of the cross presents a structure organized according to an upward axis where an iconographic program is developed centered on a synthesis of the history of Salvation. In the center, the Crucifixion recalls the sacrifice of Christ who redeems the sins of humanity. Adam, image of the original sinner, symbolizes by his resurrection at the foot of the cross this universal redemption (Redemption). At the top, the blessing Salvator Mundi (Saviour of the World) holds a globe, a marker of his sovereignty over the terrestrial world.
