Enamels on champlevé copper

The scenes of the dome and the barrel are made of enamels on champlevé copper. This technique, giving brilliance and colors of great vivacity consists in digging cells, or "fields", in a metal plate and placing the enamel powder there which, on heating, solidarizes with the metal by vitrifying . The spared metal parts form the partitions. On the foot of the cross, the enamelled figures stand out against a smooth golden background. The enamels present a rich color palette, with combinations of very bright colors (yellow-green, blue-white) and shimmering effects.
