Chasing and engraving

On the statuettes, on the architectural and vegetal elements as well as on the enamelled scenes, the details of the decoration and certain inscriptions are obtained by chasing and engraving. These two processes reinforce the extreme refinement of the object; they consist of drawing lines on the surface of the metal. The chasing, carried out using a chisel, creates lines without removing metal, while the engraving, performed with a chisel, cuts the metal more or less deeply.
