The capital is decorated with four bust figures, which are probably personifications of the four elements. The man holding a fish and the woman with a spade are obviously the allegories of the Sea and the Earth, mentioned by the inscriptions Mare and Terra engraved on the top of the capital. The man with the raised arm would be Air (or perhaps the centurion Cornelius, who proclaims the divinity of Christ). The man with the little dragon (a salamander?) would be Fire (or a representation of the Abyss, symbol of evil).
